Casa Adela
About This Spot
Stepping into Casa Adela feels like being warmly welcomed into a close-knit family’s kitchen—there’s an immediacy of comfort and a quiet buzz of genuine care that settles around you. This small Puerto Rican spot, tucked away on Loisaida Avenue, hums with a relaxed pace where conversations happen naturally over plates shared and stories exchanged.
It’s the kind of place where the aroma of home-cooked flavors invites you to slow down and savor the moment. The dining area, intimate and unpretentious, hums with a soft energy that’s both lively and soothing, reminiscent of a neighbor popping in for a heartfelt meal. The staff moves with a friendly attentiveness, creating a space where everyone feels seen and appreciated beyond just their order.
The menu here is less about culinary showmanship and more about preserving the comforting pulse of Puerto Rican heritage. Expect dishes where golden tostones meet tender rotisserie chicken, and mofongo arrives infused with the kind of garlicky, rich warmth that makes you want to linger over every bite. Sweet plantains, hearty stews, and fresh, simple salads round out the experience—all woven together by recipes that feel lovingly handed down through generations.
Dining at Casa Adela is a moment to connect—to the food, to the culture, and to the people who carry that tradition forward with quiet pride. It’s a place that doesn’t rush you but holds space for a meal that’s not just about eating, but about sharing a piece of home, even if just for an evening.

This tiny family owned and run restaurant has limited seating but the food is worth the wait. We had the chicken stew and chicken mofongo. Both were amazingky deliciious and food for the soul. The fried plantains were a perfect compliment to our dinner.

It’s like walking into someone’s home. What a beautiful diner, beautiful staff and beautiful energy. Everyone here works really hard the food was on point! My daughter couldn’t stop eating the mofongo! 10/10 would recommend coming here. The owner is amazing!

4.5 4.5 Really liked the food here, flavorful but not salty for me. This time, also ordered Bacalao; yuca with onions; mofongo which has pernil mixed in, and crispy chicharron on top (less pricey than the mofongo with pernil or chicken entree). Flan was so good and only $3. Chicken chicharron were crispy and tasty but were not meaty pieces. Pernil sandwich was pressed, kind of plain. 2 hours from being outside/waiting for a table to finishing our meal. I did notice that once seated, it took a while for our order to be taken. There were only 2 people attending to the tables but staff is very nice, homey feel when eating there. Kitchen was busy- noticed a lot of pick-up orders too. Small restaurant, tables near each other; with a small restroom.

I recently had the pleasure of dining at Casa Adela, and it instantly became my go-to spot for authentic, home-style Puerto Rican cooking. The place has such a wonderfully warm and homey feel, and the entire staff is incredibly nice, making you feel like family from the moment you walk in. The food here is truly exceptional. Every dish I tried was packed with flavor—seasoned perfectly without being overly salty. The portions are fantastic; everything is served in generous, sharing sizes. I highly recommend starting with the fried chicken even as a side, it was a huge, crispy, and savory portion. We also loved the mofongo, which had deliciously tender pernil mixed in and crispy chicharron on top, and the savory bacalao. Don't skip the pink beans either; they add wonderful depth of flavor to the meal. While the restaurant is small and cozy, that only speaks to its immense popularity it’s clearly a neighborhood treasure, evidenced by how busy the kitchen was filling both dine-in and pick-up orders. The service, despite the bustle, was attentive and dedicated. For dessert, the flan is a must-try; at only $3, it’s the perfect, sweet ending. Casa Adela is a vibrant, flavorful experience that offers incredible food and service. Just remember this traditional spot is cash only!

Delicious Puerto Rican food in a fun, casual environment. From the friendly welcome and service to the great food, I enjoyed it all. Portions were extremely generous for some dishes and went to about normal. The Puerto Rican friends I was with shared that the portions were smaller than they expected, but they still enjoyed it as well.

Great puerto rican food. Highly recommend the fried chicken, we had it as side order and it was still in big portion. Roast chicken was also good. Each food can be in sharing size. Yellow rice was nothing special, but the pink beans add more flavor. Place is packed with guests. Cash only, but still taxed.

A small resturant with big flavor! Food is on the money, I had chuleta con-con, with arroz con condules, ensalad, (pork chop, rice and salad) excellent. There were six of us, luckily we were seated pretty fast, but people waiting outside in the cold to seat and eat. The food is worth the wait, not expensive at all....

I look forward to passing through Manhattan on the way home because I know I can hop off the FDR and be at Casa Adela's in minutes. Just thinking about the food makes me hungry, and I can't wait for my annual visit. Eveything is good, my game plan? Order everything (You can always take home leftovers). Save room for flan and the best coffee in town.
